Heavenly focussed

These days there is a particular child who is in that stage when children are very focused on heaven as well as meeting Jesus and his mother Mary. She shall remain nameless but she is less than five… you get the drill.

In Mass last Sunday she wore a beloved pair of pink mittens to Mass – they, sort of, matched her pink dress – in that they were a shade of pink. They have little flowers embroidered on them.  They have become “loved” somewhat in the manner of the classic Velveteen Rabbit. As a result of their age she had forgotten from whence they came. This prompted her to ask me where they had come originally  – from Christmas when she was three…

So then she wondered how come they still fit her… which led her to the thought of them eventually “growing out of her” as so many of her favorite dresses and tops have been doing of late. These items have been retired for Cecilia to grow into.

“But I don’t want to give them to Cici when they don’t fit me any more. In fact when I die and go to Heaven, I’ll give them to Mary to hang up.”

Sometimes it is very hard to keep a straight face on in Mass. Shameful – no?
